Madison County Board of Supervisors Unanimously Votes Against Proposed Gun Range

On May 13, 2026 the Madison County Board of Supervisors met in the Winterset High School auditorium for a public hearing for the Vanguard shooting range. Following a presentation by Vanguard, public comment was given by numerous members of the public for over an hour. All who spoke with the exception of one resident were opposed to the shooting range. The Madison County Zoning Board had previously recommended to deny the application. The ultimate decision rested on the Board of Supervisors with all three supervisors in agreement that the application should be denied.
