The Madison County Board of Supervisors held their annual organizational meeting on Friday, January 2, 2026.
At the beginning of the calendar year, each County Board of Supervisors in Iowa are required by Iowa Code to hold an organizational meeting. It serves as the legal reset for how the Board will function during the coming year.
Included in Friday’s meeting were:
- Election of Supervisor Heather Stancil as Board Chair (nominated by Supervisor Jessica Hobbs and seconded by Supervisor Diane Fitch).
- Distribution of assigned roles within the county
- Distribution of Supervisors to committees or boards
- Confirmation of The Madisonian as the official newspaper for public notices
The board was, for the most part, in agreement on the division of labor and few changes were made from the 2025 assignments.
Also discussed at this meeting was a resolution to approve a contract for the purchase of camera equipment/annual license for the courthouse. This topic came up at the December 30 Board of Supervisor meeting when Supervisor Heather Stancil asked about the claim to pay for this item. It appeared at that time that the contract was not brought to the Supervisors for approval. At the Friday, January 2 meeting, Stancil indicated that she had consulted with Auditor Brant and they agreed to add a resolution to the agenda to approve the contract. The funds for this purchase and annual license come from LOST (Local Option Sales Tax) funds.
The topic of the landfill came up as part of the discussion of who would oversee those board responsibilities. The Board discussed past issues with individuals dumping turbines at the landfill and that it is a hazard and is illegal.
Below is the resolution document with the appointments made by the Board. Note that the year is incorrect on this first page. This was likely an error made when creating the document. However, these were the appointments approved on Friday, January 2026.
