Madison County, Iowa, has eight elected county offices, five of which will be on the ballot in 2026. Those include the Treasurer, Attorney, Recorder and two Supervisors (Districts 1 and 3). The offices are currently held by
- County Treasurer Kylee Barber (appointed in 2025)
- County Attorney Stephen Swanson (appointed in 2024)
- County Recorder Brandy Macumber (elected in 2022)
- County Supervisor Heather Stancil (elected in 2020)
- County Supervisor Diane Fitch (elected in 2018)
The Madison Report asked each of the five elected officials if they plan on running in 2026 for their respective offices and if they have a statement they’d like to share with Madison County voters.
Macumber and Barber confirmed that they will run in the GOP primary. Stancil stated that she will not seek re-election due to family health issues however she said that she is committed to serving for the remainder of her term. Swanson and Fitch did not respond to our inquiries.
Madison County Recorder Brandy Macumber shared the following statement:
“For 19 years, I have had the privilege of serving the people of Madison County in the Recorder’s Office. I am running for reelection to continue leading an office known for accuracy, friendly and knowledgeable customer service, and respect for the residents and businesses who rely on our work every day. Experience is extremely important in local government. I understand the importance of precise recordkeeping, staying current with state codes, and ensuring our residents have a local office they can trust for clear answers and dependable guidance.

Madison County Treasurer Kylee Barber told The Madison Report:
“I am running for Treasurer because I believe our county deserves careful stewardship, honesty, and leadership grounded in hard work and dedication. I have a deep love for this county and the people who call it home, and I am committed to serving our community with integrity and responsibility.”
The offices of County Supervisor (District 2), County Sheriff, and County Auditor are not on the ballot until 2028. Those offices are held by Jessica Hobbs, Jason Barnes and Michele Brant respectively.
The primary is on June 2, 2026. County candidates wishing to run in a primary race must file the appropriate paperwork to the Auditor’s office by March 20, 2026.
